Ultimate Hot Chocolate

Vegan | Gluten Free

Traditionally a bed-time drink, hot chocolate actually originated in South America, was dairy free and had heaps of chilli in it. We’ve been collecting hot chocolate recipes and experimenting for years and think we’ve cracked it with this method below. It’s quite removed from the traditional recipe, has a nod to the Aztecs and a nutritional boost from the nut butter. It is more refreshing than soporific, so enjoy it at any time of the day. Like it extra chocolaty? Plonk some Pitch Dark chunks into the cup when you serve it!

Ingredients:

Makes 2 cups

• 500ml Milk of choice or Water
• 2 tbsp Cacao Powder
• 2 tbsp Coconut Sugar
• 1 heaped tbsp Nut Butter
• Splash of Vanilla
• Pinch each of: Cayenne, Cinnamon, Nutmeg

Method:

1. Put all the ingredients in the blender and whizz until smooth.
2. Gently heat in a pan, whisking to get a frothy top.
3. Serve in mugs with a scattering of cacao powder and for extra decadence some Pitch Dark chunks.
4. For a Minty or Orangey hot chocolate replace the spices with Peppermint or Orange Oil
